Yessir!! Just this last weekend I finally had the time/parts/money to get the engine to roar to life! What problems are you having? (you might want to start a new topic for it, I'll keep an eye out)

yamaha's site has parts diagrams and blowups to help you find part numbers.. GOOD stuff.

I would start a new post instead of tacking on to an old one like this, then you will get more help!!

Well thanks for nothing

I guess asking those who have had simular issues is not acceptible here .

Well i better move along and find another forum that is more USER FRIENDLY instead of wasting my time here.

thanks again.

have a nice day.

That offended you?

The way I read it, he made a helpful suggestion in a civilized manner.

==============================================

the diagram i found gave a part number as suggested but did little to eliminate an issue.

thanks for the hint of where to find part numbers i am fustrated with trying to eliminate the NO SPARK ISSUE and i thought that the diode could help fix that.

the dealership wants 11 dollars for the diode

11 bucks isn't bad, order away.. though you can test the diode using a multi-meter.... but

You are STILL going to get more help starting your own thread.. not because I'm not being helpful.... but people DON'T CHECK old posts for new questions. Start a thread and I'm sure you will get LOTS of help.

Hi 82xs400j,

The first place to start on these 400's is an unlikely place. These old 400's have a switch on the kick stand that wont let the bike start if the kick stand is down. When the switch goes bad the bike gets no spark, it thinks the kick stand is down when in fact it is not. The switch looks like a flasher relay from a car but its not.

Let me know if this helps.

Good luck !!!
Budman
