I am really wanting to buy a new (2007) bike.
It will most likely be a C50 Suzuki or Honda Aero 750 (though still considering the V-Star 650, too).
I was looking at used bikes that are only a couple years old, but whether from a dealer
or from a private party, they are priced not much less than a new one due to the late-in-the-season sales going on right now.
So I keep thinking, why buy used when for $1,000 more (or less, in some cases) I can get a
brand new bike with a warranty.
Then I start factoring in the freight/setup fees, and start considering used again.
Now there is one dealer in the area that is advertising "No freight/setup fees" on red & black C50's.
And while I like that bike, I'm leaning towards the Honda, and the prices on the V-Star's are keeping
them in the running, too.
So my questions are: Do dealers typically waive these costs on end-of-season sales?
Will they just laugh at me if I ask to have them waived?
Any advice/tips for getting them waived on a new bike this time of year?
Thanks
Will they waive Freight & Setup fees?

Just bought a new V-Star 650 an they not only wived the freight and setup, they gave me credit for a non-existent trade. I shopped hard, though.
My first quote for the V-Star was $7300 otd for a raven classic with ghost flames. By the time it was all said a month later it was $6200 otd including windshield and and engine guard. Had I taken the bike stock it would ave been $5800, otd.
I felt the same as you. Used V-Star (late model) were selling for $5000-5500, so why not just buy new.
Honda would not budge much. Kawaski was willing to deal well below MSRP, but that was still a chunk above the V-Star, and the VN 900 was a little bigger than I wanted for a first bike.
Bottom line is, at this time of year (in Texas, at least) they wont laugh if you tell them you want OTD at MSRP or even a little below...actually they will probably laugh if you don't. But not until you are gone and they have your money safely in their pocket

just ask
and if they dont, walk away unless they are the only dealers in town!
i got mine for $100 below retail, tax, title and license.
the V Star 650 has always been ment to get new riders on a cruiser, fall in love w/ Yamah aand build some loyalty because the 650 are bullet proof and eventually get the rider to trade up to a Road Star or other Yamaha bike.
i have a 650 classic, love it, will do some mods to it this winter and wake up the engin. If i were to ever buy another metric again, it would probably be yamaha as they have ok dealerships, lots of aftermarket parts, very knowledgable web forums, a nice riding and touring group and the proce point is good!
i wont lie- i also look @ Harleys too, demo them buy thier clothing and such, but for the price....its hard to pass up
good luck and dont be ashamed to ask- if you dont ask, why the heck would they give you something off!
