What do I need to do to keep my bike running fine...

So like I said a week or so ago, I shattered my wrist & broke my hip so the doctor says no riding until at least October.

My bike just hit 600 miles & needs it's first service, but I don't know anyone (or trust anyone!) that can ride it after the service.

Should I be concerned about the gas becoming stale as well as other factors?
Or should I just go out to the garage & start it once a week, haha.

starting it up and let it idle a few minutes should be fine, youll prolly drain the battery though pretty fast. better off to put fuel stabelizer in it and disconnect the battery. read up on winterizing and do that if you wont be able to ride for a few months. i think the gas is the biggest worry though as long as you fire it up often or use the fuel stabelizer youll be ok.

if your not rideing the bike,yes use stabelizer ,and if possible ,start once a week,this to will keep the batt,charged, im a freak when it comes to changeing the oil ,i change out erery 1000 miles,cant help my self, same with my cars, new spark plugs once a year,i will not take my bike to a dealer,to have any type of work on my bike, if possible., now there are good dealers, that will give you the time of day,

i didnt think starting the bike and letting it idle did anything for the battery? dont the rpms need to be over 4000 or something(im sure it depends on the bike)... sure you could sit there idling that high i guess, but most people dont know what rpms will actually give them a charge so they just let it idle normal and it drains the batt.

I've heard that the battery will drain if you only let it idle. Also, letting your bike idle for more than 1 or 2 minutes is not a great idea anyway. With Stabil in the tank, and the battery on a trickle charger, you should be good to go when it's time to restart the bike in October.

The folks in the "garage" forum might have more definite answers to this. Hope you're riding again as soon as possible.
