Never Rode a Bike but thinking of getting Suzuki GSX-R600

#1 Unread post by igor »

Now i am looking for some honest advice here, my neighbor is trying to get rid of his '04 GSX-R600, selling it to me for 2k dollars, i never rode a bike before but the price that he is giving me makes it VERY tempting because it cost less than say ninjas and other begginer bike, but looks SO much better
If this isnt a bike for me please tell me so and give some other ideas as to what to do
REMEMBER I NEVER RODE A MOTOTRCYCLE BEFORE

Will say basically everything I and others will say.

But in short:

No it's not the bike for you. Look at a Kawasaki Ninja (EX) 250 or 500 or a Suzuki GS 500.

Oh and take the MSF.
Have fun on the open /¦\

I know, I was surprised too.

you're not going to have very much FUN riding that for the first few months. from what i hear it's got some pretty nasty brakes, throttle response, and major squid factor.

here's what it's SUPPOSED to do:

does a beginner rider need such a bike??

nah

I'd recommend:

2008 ninja 250
any year Suzuki GS500
any year Kawasaki 500
buell blast 500
more...

Great idea, go for it but do the following first:

1) Sign your organ donor card.
2) Up your life insurance to a couple million dollars
3) Make me your sole beneficiary

or in other words, no this is not beginners bike, and I am getting tired of reading about novice riders wrapping themselves around a tree or lamppost or smacking into a rock face because they were hot dogging on a bike that was way above their experience level or riding ability. If you do decide to buy it, then park the damn thing and get a Ninja 250 or some other learner bike and get some skills and experience.
Always ask why.

You'll look fine on a Ninja 500.

Yeah, the 250 wasn't the only thing mentioned here. The 500 is a fine bike.

There is also a load of bikes in the beginner bike thread that are plenty sporty and for taller folks.

The thread is called -

"New Riders... before you buy a 600+cc sportbike READ THIS!!!"

* 2003 Kawasaki ZRX1200R *
"What good fortune for those of us in power that people do not think. " Hitler - think about that one for a minute.

I see a lot of ZX6R's (Kawi equivalent of the GSX-R [but better :D]) go out as a first bike from my shop.

I also see a lot of them come back with crash damage, or never hear from the riders again.

Might want to think your plan through a little more carefully. Is that proper grammar? Despite what most people seem to think, they're not prodigies, they're not "different from everyone else." They are the same 99% of the population that has no idea what they're talking about.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
