sticky breaks

#1 Unread post by dean owens »

i have an 83 honda gl650 silverwing. i have a question about my breaks sticking. i noticed in october after my bike sat for a few weeks that my breaks were sticking. after i got moving everything was fine. they have done this with varying degrees since then. they also squeak. but the other day we had some warmer weather (60's) and they didn't stick at all and there was no squeaking. i've been told that i need to rebuild my calipers but i'm wondering why i don't notice this problem when it's warmer but only notice it when it's colder. what's going on here?

You probably have moisture in the brake fluid and calipers. If I were you, I would get a caliber rebuild kits (Just some seals) and clean them up. I didn't do that on my CB360t and the caliper ended up stuck with the front brake on. The caliper corroded so much that I needed a another one.

If you clean it up now, it will work better and you won't need to replace as many parts. (and you won't get your brakes "frozen" on either)
