Greetings from Midlands, England, UK!!

Hello folks,

My name is Karl and I'm about to purchase my first bike ever!!! I'm due for my CBT (Compulsary Basic Training) this coming Thursday and have never rode a motorbike in my life previously. The nearest I've come was back in my youth, a friend let me sit on his scooter and I crashed it LoL. I was a pillion passenger on a 750 of some description when I was a teenager, literally just those two experiences are my only ones.

So here I am, seeking a wealth of knowledge and wisdom from those with experience and understanding.

I've never liked bikes, because my Mom was always against them and I've seen two guys die on bikes in accidents... it does put ya off. But, as a student with practically no money to my name outside of grants & loans, I need something affordable & economical to maintain; thus was born the idea of me on a motorbike!

Anyway, here I am - and looking forward to interacting with you good folks!

PS - Anyone around here close to me (Midlands, England)?

Welcome to the site.

I know there is a member in Herefordshire, and there are definitely a lot more on your side of the pond...

Enjoy the site there's a lot more to it than just the forums...

I'm not from the Midlands, but I am a mid-lifer who will also be riding for the first time this summer. I have to wait until May, though, for winter to be mostly over...

Good luck to you!

Cheers,
Rod.

I had my CBT yesterday. I made a mistake. The night before, I was sorting my clothes out and decided the weather had been so nice, I could afford to take the lining out of my jacket & over-trousers... So I did. I went out thinking the weather would be awesome and got proven wrong. I also had this crazy idea that the first part of the test would be in a building - HAHAHA. No.
There was I sat in the middle of an empty car-park, freezing my nuts off, sat on a plastic chair which had been pulled out of a large trailer. So many hours later we got on the road.

Boy, do I need to work on my clutch control. I won't tell you how many times my bike flew across the road with me barely hanging on LOL. But, he passed me explaining it was my only downfall. My balance and general control is ok, I just need to practise on the clutch control, and when using it in conjunction with the throttle.

Anyway, watch out Britain... I'm lose on the roads now!
