Weird, I had someone from NY that came down here tell me that people here dont know how to merge. Another story: 2 nights ago on the freeway at 10pm, they were closing down 2/3 lanes (1, then the other) for construction. They gave plenty of notice to merge. People still waited until the very last second to get in, because they wanted to speed down the "fast" closing lane to get to the front. Instead of merging with the next good opportunity. This led to people switching back and forth to get to the "faster" moving lane after both lanes filled up. Why can't people figure it out? The constant lane changing just makes it all slower. If you cut someone off to go 1/2 mph faster, then that lane will be 5mph or more slower behind you. Repeat and you get a very slow freeway with maybe 5 people getting out faster. End long tirade.

I would just have thought with so many urban areas in NJ, and NY supposedly being better, that NJ would have decent, intelligent drivers.

Well the problem with NJ is that most are too aggressive and those that aren't aggressive are too defensive. There is no happy medium in this state.

And you would think that NJ drivers and NY drivers would drive the same. This is also not the case. I feel like NY and NJ drivers live by a completely different set of driving rules.

Exactly. Which is why I said I'd hold back unless waved up. Most knowlegable bikers do not sit in the middle of a lane at a traffic light. That's where dripping oil and other slippery fluids tend to collect.

A biker using one side of the lane, isn't necessarily inviting you to share.

If your up the front before me and im arriving there, if you didnt move over or position yourself so that I can squeeze in too (if you saw me), id be annoyed.

Only unwritten rule is, if im there first and you have come up to share the front spot with me, I leave first at the green not you !!
