were to park my motorcycle?
were to park my motorcycle?
I want to ride my motorcycle to work. I work at a grocery store, were do you guys normally park at grocery stores or any other big parking lots that don't have motorcycle specific parking? (if your going to be there for hours)
I could park it in front at the closest spot to the window of the store cause i am near the window my whole shift so i can see it but i am afraid some car is not going to see by some chance and whip into the spot.
Or should I ask the manager if i can park it in front of the building on the sidewalk part? i cant see my baby from there though =X
any suggestions? much appreciated =]

Someone just recently posted and asked about parking on sidewalks.
Parking on public sidewalks is illegal. But since the grocery store is on private property, just get your managers permission and park it on part of the sidewalk that won't be in anyone's way.
I know you say you can't see it that way, but it sounds like a toss-up. Either you park in the lot, where you can see it, but some nimrod might hit it. Or, you park where you can't see it, but you'll be assured no cars will touch it. Right? I'd take the sidewalk and use a disc lock.

Even in a private lot, a sidewalk is still public access and belongs to the city. Therefore, it's still illegal to park on it. Gaining approval from the manager will not guarantee approval from the police.Dragonhawk wrote:Someone just recently posted and asked about parking on sidewalks.

Many markets have a dumpster surrounded by a fence or gate. Sometimes that area has a gap between it and the building. Perhaps you can park between there with a lock to the fence. Otherwise, you'll just have to take your chances and park near the window you indicate from which you can view.

I dont think the concrete curb "sidewalk" next to the building is considered a real sidewalk. I think it is more considered part of the building. I really, really, really don't think any cop would ticket you for parking it there unless the managment complained, or there were signs indicating that it was illegal. Also, another reason why it probably isn't considered public property is that businesses can have no loitering/soliciting signs in front of their buildings. A private party can't enforce that on public land.
I'm not sure of any of this, so don't take my word for it, this is just how it seems to me. I would ask your manager (store manager rather than shift if you can find him), since it's his store and he probably knows those rules better than anyone except a magistrate/traffic court judge.

Re: were to park my motorcycle?
If allowed by the management of the store, park on the building pad sidewalk (private property). If this isn't allowed, park in a parking space, but be sure to keep your bike parked as far back in the space (almost sticking out of the parking space) and at a pretty good angle. This allows your bike to be more visible to people searching for a spot.resage wrote:I want to ride my motorcycle to work. One thing about your idea of parking up close to the store, in my experience, management will have an issue with you taking up a customer space so close to the store. Typically you have to park out in the middle of BFE.

I call that the foront of the parking slot but agree, park the bike so it's almost sotcking out of the spot and can be seen from a distance. This will help avoid people whipping into the slot assuming it's open.beardking wrote:If this isn't allowed, park in a parking space, but be sure to keep your bike parked as far back in the space (almost sticking out of the parking space) and at a pretty good angle.
Also, when parking on the street, if at all possible, try to avoid parking behind cars, expecially tall ones like pickups or SUVs. Tons of bikes get backed into and knocked over every year - and many times dirvers will simply drive away - either intentionally or becuase they "didn't know" they knocked your bike over. This is much less likely to happen if you park at the front of a line of cars.

Yeah, I debated on which to call it (front/back), it's basically all a point of view. The main thing, stay out where you are most visible. I used to get questions here at my office almost every day I rode because people couldn't figure out why my rear tire was so close to the red fire lane line. Once I explained, you could almost physically see the light bulb glowing.Flting Duck wrote: I call that the foront of the parking slot but agree, park the bike so it's almost sotcking out of the spot and can be seen from a distance.
