once I park in a spot I come back to find other bikes and scooters filling out the rest of the space. I usually leave room for such occasions and cagers should be grateful that we can fit in one spot.

If its your work, then hopefully you have a clue where the most "active" spaces are. I'd avoid those, but pick an out front spot to one side, where you can easily step outside and check on the bike.

Definitely avoid those "around the back" spots because its just too easy for some low life to do some mischief and walk away.

I've parked at offices where they had the odd shaped waste areas marked with stripes. So long as I'm not on the sidewalk or preventing access by service vehicles, those are usually available without problem.

I do the same at work. I always park on the extreme left or right side of the parking space to leave room for another bike. Have any of my fellow bikers caught on yet? Nope. They each take up a full space in the already crowded lot. Unfortunately, there are a few hundred people working here, so I don't know who the other bikers are. I'm thinking of leaving post-its on the other bikes in the lot to clue them in.
