you really dont get that much better gas mileage by doing 10mph over the speed limit. For example (this is just my bike and does not show everyones type of vehicle) on my bike at 80mph I get 52mpg. at 65mph I get 55. To me that isnt much. Though one is highway driving and one is country driving. Now if we are talking 25mph vs 65mph I never tested that so there probably is a huge difference there. Now this is my bike. Every vehicle is different so for some people yes slowing down might give you better gas mileage. either way your not going to get me to slow down just to save a few miles to the gallon. if it was tens of miles I might consider but a couple isnt worth my worry.

Come to think of it, I will have to do some searching, wasnt there a study out that proved you get the best gas mileage at 65mph????? I seem to remember something like that way back before I could even drive. Like when I was in middle school. Ill have to do some searching on google see if I find anything.

*edit well currently I cant find the study HOWEVER, I do see that it depends on the vehicle with what speed you get the best gas mileage at. Some vehicles (especially older) get best at 55 others like the new 08 Ford Taurus get the best mileage at 75mph. Now the difference between 75mph and 55mph on that taurus is only 3 mpg but you get the point. I accidentally closed the website otherwise I would link to it but I found the website using google. I am going to keep looking for that study though cause now its buggine me hehe.

Saw gas for sale at 1.26/litre the other day, that works out to $4.77/US Gal. Add that to our insurance bill and it's time to start thinking about a bicycle...

Watch them find a way to start getting money from bicyclists soon.

Is this insurance price also a problem for cars in Canada or just bikes?

Like the US, it varies from province to province, but, although cars aren't as bad, it's still higher than I'd like it to be. $1200+ for my 20 year old beater... Again, that's with a 43% discount...

I should learn not to read these fuel rant threads, your prices always make me jealous

We don't pay a VAT tax like you guys across the pond. But someone in this forum from the middle east is paying much less than everyone here so far.

Maybe we should have a contest on who pays the lowest amount.

Not as bad for cars huh? I thought there was some kind of anti-biking thing going on there.

$3.77 and rising here in Conn. Already over $4 a gallon in Fairfield County - suburb of New York City.

Whats funny is I can drive 10 miles up the road into Mass and buy gas 20 cents cheaper. And Conn is raising the gas tax again on July 1st. Who said these politicians don't care about people? LOL
