beanies or Bell Drifters close to Vancouver, Canada ?

Hi,

I've been searching the stores and the internet and I cannot find any beanies or Bell Drifters close to Vancouver, Canada.

Any suggestions ?

Why are you looking for one? They are illegal in Canada.

I've been to about every bike store in Vancouver and the lowermainland, so I could tell you if I've ever seen them. Only problem, I don't know what beanies or bell drifters are.

beanie: half helmet with very thin padding not DOT or SNELL approved

Ah OK, I've seen those.

Any Harley dealer should have beanies. I know the one in Port Moody does.

I haven't seen the Bell brand, but something similar at British Italian Motorcycles in Vancouver. I think they were made by Davida.

Beanies are not DOT approved, and therefore no self respecting motorcycle shop will sell them. Also, if you are pulled over by the police wearing a non-DOT helmet, you will be in for some pretty hefty fines.

If you want the Bell helmet, go to the Bell website and look for their listing of retailers. You might find one in your area.

I wonder how will police tell if the helmet is DOT or NOT ?

I've called all Bell retailers in my area and none of them has the drifter

But I've got a hint about a Honda dealer who might have beanies...

Very simply - A DOT approved helmet will have a DOT sticker on the back; a non-DOT approved helmet won't.

DOT approved helmets should also have a certification sticker on the inside of the helmet, underneath the liner

If you do find a fake DOT sticker and put it on a non-DOT helmet, you could still be in trouble. The police might decide to have your helmet tested if they think it isn't legal. If they find out that the helmet is not legal, well then.........

I don't think it would fly very well with the prosecutor.

oops, whenever I buy shiny new things I remove all stickers. Therefore my DOT full-face does not have any, either on the outside or on the inside. Neither does my bike (stickers, logos, whatever)

Let's think for a second, no police officer would risk being sued for badgering a biker who just does't have the stickers. Especially since all those lawyers took on riding...

Now seriously, I have heard they're not legal but so are the loud pipes and AIS-less motors and many other mods we do to our bikes. Noone will ever pass the motorcycle skill test on a 9+ft custom chopper. Some laws just cannot be enforced.
