shaking electraglide

#1 Unread post by neiltoby »

hi everyone...im thinking of purchasing a 1990 mod harley electroglide classic...bike seems to run well, good when u apply the throtle but has major shaking (vibration) when off the throtle...owner tells me its not engine mounts but the shaking seems to be from the whole bike....stops if u pull the clutch in....any ideas would be great thanks.....cheers.

You do know that Harleys have a lot of low frequency vibration at idle. That being said what puzzles me is the vibration goes away when you pull in the clutch. That kinda indicates the clutch or transmission. But it runs good. What kind of mileage does it get?
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Is it shaking while in gear at idle? Or while in neutral? If while in neutral then there's something definitely up with the transmission. If it's in gear while idling along and shaking hard it means it's just the engine lugging, give it some throttle and go!

A Harley that shakes? That the "Engine running" indicator.

Without, you couldn't be sure if the motor was running or not.

Check the compression. May be one cylinder is a little stronger than the other.
