What do you think?

#1 Unread post by tlwodse »

Hi All!

I took the MSF course & got my licence in November. My friend lent me her Honda Rebel 250 to start out but due to living in Wisconsin & family obligations, I have only put on about 150 miles. Now its summer & I am ready (I think), she needs the bike back for her daughter.

Husband has 1985 Yamaha Virago 1100 that he wants to get running for me to ride. He has a large touring bike also. I am thinking this might be too big for me? I did not like the Rebel since it was small and I am female, 5'8" and 190 pounds. I'd love to find a Honda Shadow 600 but since the yamaha would not cost much and money is a factor (when isn't it!), i will try it.

I have had other female friends start out on bigger bikes a few years ago & so far have not had any problems.

Any thoughts?

The 1100 is pretty heavy. My wife rides a 1000 and they are smaller and lighter plus she has ridden for a long time. I like her so I would not let her start on a bike that big. Be better to sell that one and buy something better suited to a new rider.

Well, since $ is a factor if selling isn't an option that looks like it'll get you what you need, look for a trade. Someone is probably looking to trade up, you can trade to what's more comfortable.
