96' virago troubles

#1 Unread post by scottn20 »

Have a 1996 yamaha virago.horn quit working. Also the turn signals only work if I hold the switch. Any ideas? This bike sat for over 2 years and this is the last 2 things I need to get it to pass inspection.

Both of those switches are right next to each other, so I suspect some wiring troubles in the housing.

Take the switch housing off by taking the two screws off the bottom. It comes off in two halves. Once it's off, disassemble and thoroguhly clean the lower half, which houses those two switches. Inspect everything there to make sure it looks OK. This will probably fix it. Once it's fixed, get some dielectric grease on the components.

You might end up needing a new switch housing.

Check the horn and its electrical contacts, too.
