New Lurker with questions
Hello everyone,
After lurking on the site all week, I thought I should join and post my question. I once owned a bike, 15 years ago. I had it about 3 months with a learners permit, then I wrecked. I broke a bone in my neck, one of those little ones that hang off the side of the spine. I'm okay with no side effects, that I know of!
Anyway, ever since I sold the bike, not long after the wreck, I've been wanting another. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but this time I want to go to training, and really learn.
I saw another poster on the forum that had a questions with how to tell his family that he wanted one, and I read all of the answers. Just going out and doing the training, and then getting a used bike isn't going to cut it. I've talked about this for about a year now, and we have some friends that ride, but I can't convince her.
Has anyone else, or is anyone else in this boat, and without trying to royally "pee" off their spouse found a way to do this?
Thanks,
And I really enjoy the forum!

How do you feel about a little scooter? If you can get your foot in the door, so to speak, she might be more open to it as you move up in bike size. People tend to be less threatened by a little scooter than they are about a bike with the same size engine.
Or, you could do like the guy who's interested in buying my bike; his wife is on vacation, and he wants to buy before she gets back. Better to ask forgiveness than permission

Find out where and when the next classes are taking place and take your wife with you to observe. Perhaps seeing them up close in the lot may make her feel less nervouse about the whole thing......but...keep in mind there are some people who really do not like bikes and nothing will change their mind.
Welcome to the site.
I was sorta in the same boat. My wife had an accident when she was a teenager and was almost killed (still sees the scares in the mirror). It took me about a year to 2 to finally convince her to let me get a bike. I started off talking about a scooter and she finally gave in thinking it would be ok. I then went scooter surfing on the net. Found one that she even liked. But when I told her it was more powerfull (500cc) than a small cruiser she finally agreed to the Honda I got. She still worries but I finally got 1,,, wooo hoooo.
