I was at a local shop today getting the old honda inspected and I was reading a flyer they had hanging, I think it was for east coast sturgis or something like that. It listed all the events and things that were taking place at this motorcycle rally and one of them was a motorcycle demo derby. How does that work? I can't get the picture of crazy people on bikes ramming into each other and breaking legs and arms and who knows what else. Has anybody ever heard of this?

You couldn't pay me enough to ride one of those...
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Perhaps they meant "motorcycle demo(demonstration) derby. Similar to a test drive of sorts. IE: you get a chance to demo a new model.

They do it down south all the time at bike fests and races. And many times, it IS for everyone. They ask for volunteers out of the stands to ride donated bikes. The tend to be wearing street clothes and (supplied?) '70's openface, metalflake lids for the most part. The speeds are pretty slow, and most guys just drop the bike and run when they see they are being lined up for a hit. Entertaining to watch with a big drink in your hand. Speed Channel shows it every now and then.
No Witnesses....
