Whistling Sound ~ HONDA VLX600 DLX

#1 Unread post by BenchBoss19 »

I own a VLX600 Deluxe. When driving at higher speeds (45+) I hear a "whistling" sound from the front of the bike. I thought it was either the fork bag or the windshield causing the sound. I removed both and took the bike back out and the whistling still happens.

Has anyone had this experience? What could be causing this problem?

Can anyone help?

Thanks! :P

Could very well be your brakes, almost all brakes rub the pads against the rotor when just driving along. Also could be some random fastener slightly loose that lets the wind vibrate it at it's natural frequency... Check to make sure everything is tight and nothing wobbles, then make sure your brakes are in good condition.

I just bought the same bike today for my Wife. On the way home I heard the same whistling sound. I have no idea what it was either. Also, the front breaks when applied sound like a Cicada. It's a very fast ticking sound.

Ah, well then it's very possible it's just the normal brake noise. The front disc has heat relief holes drilled though it, and the brake pads are solid with no angle of arrival to them, so they're going to hit when the rotor goes through them. I drive a Camry that I just put slotted, relief drilled rotors on and my pads do the same thing when I drive around...
