Hi all,
I have recently purchased a 2006 Yamaha V-star Classic 650. A replacement windshield came with the bike but no hardware to mount it. The problem that I'm facing is trying to find the hardware. I've called a couple of dealers and they tell me that you can't buy the mounting hardware separately. Well I did find the mounting hardware but in the instructions it says that I need the windshield assembly. Help! What's the difference! I have searched and searched and can't find anything that talks just about windshield assembly. I know its the piece across the top and two strips along the side. Does anyone know if I can buy this separately!!
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a Yamaha replacement windshield. The person I bought it from took all the hardware with him and just gave me the actual windshield with no type of hardware at all. The Yamaha part number is str-5bn-03-11-00. So I looked online and found some mounting hardware part number str-5ks03-40-02. So I thought this was all I needed to install my windshield. But this was not the case. On the parts list is a part name "Windshield Assembly" it says to order separately but lists no part number.
I went to all of the sites listed and couldn't find just the windshield assembly. Its looking to me that I am not going to be able to just order the windshield assembly. Which from the pictures looks like to be a metal strip across the top and two metal strips on each side which attaches to the mounting hardware that I have now.
I've looked on ebay but no luck. Does anyone know of any other sites that sell used parts?
Thanks again for all your help!

The price of the Yamaha hardware to mount the windshield you have may cost more than an entire new windshield, including the mounting hardware, from one of the aftermarket companies. You may try looking at JC Whitney or J and P Cycles for a windshield kit, there are generally some affordable, good quality 'shields offered for your cruiser.
I think the Yamaha cruisers look very nice without windshields, too.

A friend recommended these guys for my V-star 1300. The prices and availability are the best I've come across so far. Do a search by your bike make/model.
