Did some research on what were good noob bikes, then shopped around until I had some solid candidates. Took a class, then bought one of my bike choices about a month after. Even though some friends recommended that I get this specific bike I liked before someone else beat me to it, I was pretty OC about taking the class first; What if I was a cr@p rider? Or what if riding simply wasn't as interesting as I thought it was?

Anyway, things worked out. Only thing I (mildly) regret is I bought my helmet before taking the class, and the rest of my gear after. I ended up getting another helmet after I learned more about lids.

Can't answer this one because there weren't any courses when I first got my licence back in the 1970s. I learned to ride by trial and error - mostly by error. In other words, I learned by falling off a lot.

This is not the best way to learn how to ride a modern motorcycle (or even an old BSA).

Take a course!

I actually spent some time in a field on a dirt bike. Then took a course to get my license.
