Weird female obsession with bikes...

#1 Unread post by earwig »

Whats up with people on these forums referring to their bikes as girlfriends/females etc... I mean, I love my bike... I love riding... but I love my REAL girl in a completly different way... I don't know, I think its sorta weird and bizarre how obsessed some of you are. Oh well... I guess thats why I live in America, everyone is allowed to be weird if they want to :)

well you have to refer to it somehow and it just seems kind of cold for something that you put so much time into.

Do you work on your' bike very much?

I don't think "it" is cold... IT is an object not a human... and... I don't even have a problem so much as calling it her, or saying "she started right up" etc... its when people are like "I feel like someone just stole my girlfriend" or something to the affect of... "my girlfriend says its my other girl, I say she is my other girl" things like that... some people just seem to refer to the bike as almost a sex partner with they way they talk about them... stay away from my bikes exhaust!

Yes I work on my bike, and have worked on cars plenty, not once did I find the need to refer to it as a person in such a weird way.

Boats are referred to in the feminine as well.

P.S I dont want my girlfriend anymore she's a beautiful 2003 Yellow ZR-7S with 1,300 miles on her she's got one big head light which shines brightly at night her saddle is firm and comfortable. I rode her all 1,300 never dropping her and always keeping her in good shape. Yours for $4,800.00 O.B.O

P.S.S I'm Serious!

Quoted for infinite wisdom.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

well yer right a moto is just another pile of molecules like every other material thing,we just love 'em!

its partly superstition that ppl refer to the bike as feminine, becoz you risk your "O Ring" everytime you go out, so you want the 'thing' thats there with you to be an intimate accesory...hence female.
