cleaning rims on a sport bike, what do you use?

#1 Unread post by alleywayriqashay »

I have a GSXR600 from 2002. got it 2nd or 3rd hand, anyways, THE RIMS ARE(were) WHITE. o man. they were nice when i got it but i ride this thing everyday. I admit I neglected them for months. Now I got down there with some brake cleaner i picked up from auto zone (the house brand) and the back rim looks way nicer. not sterling but more whitish now. The front wheel is not as willing to assist me with the same success.

so is it the house brand. should i try like bug tar remover...TELL ME!!! :frusty:

Brake Cleaner? I hope that you didn't eat off any paint or clearcoat, or damage your tires.

When I clean my wheels (rarely), I spray Simple Green on a rag, and then use the rag to wipe off all the chain lube and road grime.

I was concerned about that as well. But what eased me into it is that I heard other people do the same thing. Good thing I have simple green, Ill give it a shot. also would bleach be ok? since the rims are already white...

Generally speaking, Simple Green in the right concentration, elbow grease, and time will clean most anything.

I would stay away from the more harsh cleaners unless nothing else works.

And that's just general advice for cleaning, not specifically for bikes.

I use degreaser, the cheap $1 a can stuff made in china.

Spray it on, let it sit, hose off, wipe with a rag, presto shiney
