Not charging

#1 Unread post by jimheggie »

My Honda 1100v Shadow stopped charging. The three wired from the stator fried, so I tested for continuity between them-no breaks in the winding, and I tested them for ground continuity-no shorts. I reconndcted the wires, and the stator was still putting out voltage, but the wires wee heating up again. I am thinking that the problem might be a faulty voltage rectifier, not allowing the flow of voltage, and causing the wires to heat up at the harness. Does this seem reasonable, or is there some other explnation? Thanks for your help. JIM

Well if it wasn't allowing voltage the wires would be dead cold as there would be nothing flowing through them. Chances are the rectifier is bad... When the bike is running is the reg/rect putting out a/c or d/c? If a/c then the rectifier is bad and that's what's frying your wires.
