Earplugs while riding
I always found that riding bikes that had a fairing always made the wind noise worse. I think it was because the screen pushed a lot of turbulent air right up at my helmet level making wind noise louder. With a naked bike it always seemed much quieter.
Anyway if you guys want to try some Alpine earplugs, then Earbuddies are doing 15% off everything at the moment. There are hundreds of people who are using them in New Zealand and everyone's been really happy with how they perform. To get the discount just got to use the coupon code "ohcanada' when ordering from www.earbuddies.ca

You hit the nail on the head. Windshields generally result in more noise because of the turbulent air flow around the helmet. If I take my windshield off, wind noise at freeway speeds is about 1/2 what it is with the windshield on.Wreck wrote:I always found that riding bikes that had a fairing always made the wind noise worse. I don't wear plugs when riding around town, but I do use them for highway riding (where I usually have the windshield on). The Hearos brand disposables from the drugstore work just fine for me.

Wow, I got something from this thread. Don't re-use the squishy ear plugs - which I do all the time.
I certainly don't need any more problems.

I should but don't. Ever since I debaffled my exhaust, I get a bit of ringing in my ears.
A dog had his chain reduced one link at a time, every few days, until his chain was so short he could barely move. He never resisted because he was conditioned to the loss of his freedom slowly, over time. Are we in this country becoming like the dog?
My hearing is pretty screwed already.
I did stupid things like remain in loud music environments and shoot without hearing protection. I do use plugs to keep the wind noise down but, I also listen to music while I am riding. With the slightly modified pipes on the HD, I have to increase the volume of the music almost to the point where I might as well just not use plugs. I guess it is kind of more about keeping melodic white noise while I ride.
