Putting on slip-ons.......

#1 Unread post by MOOCH »

So I'm putting slip-ons on and the muffler is just a tad too big. What is the material called that I put on the pipe/muffler to seal it off before I clamp it? Thanks in advance!!

Ummm are you talking about exhaust wrap? Usually it's fiberglass wrap and is just simply called exhaust wrap.

Most slip-ons come with reducer sleeves to fill the gap between muffler and header; they are thin metal bands with a split down the middle so they can reduce in diameter when the pipe is clamped. If you don't have these, you can get them separately from most bike shops that sell aftermarket parts. You can also use shim stock or make your own with cut up pop cans, but it's best to use the proper ones. Once they are in place, use a bead of high temperature silicone sealant around the sleeves before placing the muffler on and clamping it. This will help prevent exhaust leaks.
