Chroming parts
Has anyone chromed parts of their bike - how much did it cost and how long did it take?

I have not chromed parts on my bike, but my SO has. He has an 1800 Goldwing and has used Classic Components

He had wheels chromed by them and was very happy with the workmanship.

I did contact one company and they said $5 a square inch for plastic parts.
My bike is huge... @ $5 a square inch - that's a load of money.

I like the pics on their home page. I'll query them for approximate costs. But I'm strongly suspecting that chroming is wayyyy out of my league, for now.Schmink wrote:I have not chromed parts on my bike, but my SO has. He has an 1800 Goldwing and has used Classic Components

More chrome = more polishing. I will never buy another bike with significant amounts of chrome. Keeping my Bonneville looking halfway decent takes more time than the other 3 motorcycles put together.

You can also just buy individual parts from Kuryakyn or Show Chrome. Most dealer sites have them available, but usually just for little things like brake reservoir covers or billet stuff. Still, you can do a little chroming and most of the parts just fits over the stock so it's easy to install.

Fuel tank covers, radiator protector covers and then later the tail... I was thinking...MZ33 wrote:Yer gonna chrome the whole thing??My bike is huge... @ $5 a square inch - that's a load of money.![]()
What, it's not different enough from other bikes?
Now, I'm thinking not with the holy cow that's expensive factor.
I'd like to make the bike one of a kind...
And also with the good advice that apparently it is a lot of work to keep looking good. And well... I'm kinda lazy when it comes to things like that.

heh... I'm too lazy for that. It'd be chrome and it would look all sorts of dirty and fingerprinted.jstark47 wrote:More chrome = more polishing. IMHO, if one wants to look at useless, wasteful, meaningless human activity, it's chroming bikes. I cruise the used bike adds and see people saying how they have $6,000 or $8,000 of chrome on the bike.
I don't get it. What is the point? Spend money on a great bike but wasting money making it "look better"? Not for me. I'll add more foster children to my account before I do that.
Sorry but when one looks at the world today, chroming a bike seems like a pathetic undertaking.
