Does your bike have a name?

I haven't been in to naming my bikes. Maybe I need to own a bike for more than a year to get to the point of knowing it well enough to name it.

In some African tribes they don't name a kid until they're two. The infant mortality rate is so high that they don't want to become emotionally invested until there's a decent chance of the kid living. Maybe that holds for your bike!

That could well be. I think they also have coming of age rituals where the teenager goes out to become a man and picks a new name.

I'm not exactly which part of the bike you'd err, trim. You might need a hack saw for that, too.

I'm not exactly which part of the bike you'd err, trim. You might need a hack saw for that, too.

Don't trim the cowling around the head light, it's designed that way for protection. The engineer knows what he/ she/ it is doing with these matters.

Try as I might I cannot figure out why people name their rides, be it four wheels or two.

I have never named a mode of transportation, although hubby has a 2007 Triumph Bonneville America he calls Bonnie. He also nicknamed her "l'outre femme" French for 'the other woman' cuz if he isn't with me he is usually out with her - "the other woman".

Can anyone enlighten me on this naming your ride phenomenon?

Some people view machinery as nothing more than inanimate objects whose sole purpose is to make life and work easier for the human race. Some people believe, to varying extents, that machinery possesses a unique soul and character. The second group are the ones who usually name the machines that have a direct and daily impact on their life, be it the bike, the car, lawnmower, toaster or whatever.

This "phenomenon" is not new or recent; it was common practice back in the day of pirates and wooden sailing ships to name a boat (usually a female name, for reasons we're NOT gonna get into here) and to claim that it had its own personality. That tradition has carried on through the ages to today's world, where even the most technologically advanced machines are given names.

And no, I haven't named my toaster. But I'm pretty sure it doesn't like me.

LOL That is sooo close to becoming my new sig.

I never named my bike. Or any of my cars. Though my first car (89 corolla) was named by my aunt.She called it Nuewada Stargazer. The name stuck the whole time I had her but after that I could never "feel" connected enough to my othe vehicles to name them.

I did name my guitar Jessica, after one of my girlfriends.

I named my first car. A 1972 Ford Pinto, I acquired it in 1977. It was frog-green, so I called it La Grenouille.




I've never named a vehicle since.
