Brakes scraping...gah!!

#1 Unread post by zenman »

It only has 7800 miles on it. Should they be wearing out so soon? They're only scraping on the outside. I apply front and back at the same time like you're supposed to. Today it scrapes even when I don't apply, so I guess I can't ride for the time being. It started only a few weeks ago. I only ride one day a week(30 miles). Is this normal? It's a Suzuki GZ250, if that matters. Can somebody tell me why this has happened?

Take a look down into your brake calipers. The pads are they gray things with the (usually) copper/silver/black colored backing. There ought to be a line down the middle of the pads. That's your wear indicator. If that's gone I'd suggest new brakes asap because it probably means you're getting down to the backplate. If you brake with that too much it'll ruin your rotors, and eventually your entire caliper. Not a good situation. Ask my buddy who couldn't resist doing stoppies even when he had no brakes left!

while you are there make sure your calipers are not stuck, that can be the cause of premature ware
