2007 v-star 650 custom warm-up

#1 Unread post by TroubledMind »

I recently purchased a V-star 650 custom that had been sitting for 2 years. It only has 400 miles on it but it seems to take a long time to warm up. It needs to be fully choked for like 3-5 minutes before it will respond to the throttle without the choke. I'm thinking it might be the carb. I've already put new gas in it. I'm thinking about adding the seafoam additive to the tank. I am also planning on having the dealer clean the carbs at 600 miles. I'm wondering if I am taking the correct steps or if the v-star just takes a while to warm up. Thanks in advance.

You've got good steps in mind, follow those and it should help. If that doesn't help much, you might need to have them rejetted.

If it only has 400 miles on it, it will be due for the first big service at 600 miles.....the first service is an important one...that engine is not broken in yet.

The seafoam can be sprayed into the carbs ( or so the Seafoam rep told me)....it may help "ungunk" them.

sitting for 2 year and not properly stores can cause issues.
Seafoam will help clean things out.
As for warming up, our 650's are cold blooded unless rejetted...its normal..
i use to turn on the bike, open choke for 30 seconds and then i put my gear on.
gloves, helmet, jacket and glasses and the bike should be good to go
