Tachometer bounce
Just bought a 1989 kawisakia 1000 police bike.It runs fine, except that the tach needle bounces mostly form 0-3 sometimes to 6.
what should I look for?
Is their a cable that goes to the engine?Or is it just electrical?
Tks.

Judging by the year, I would guess there is a cable, What **I** would do, is pry the tach gauge out of the housing, find the cable and follow it to it's source. I would also replace the gauge, as well as the cable with a newer, more reliable one. A liquid filled gauge should cause much less trouble, as well as a teflon lined cable. I would suggest making a call to JCWhittney, JP Cycles, or Dennis Kirk, they should have the parts, or, if not, be able to help with what you need.
:EDIT: The Cable should be connected to the tranny, not the engine :EDIT:

It was **AWFUL**. He was doing a stunt show down in Florida. He was in the middle of one of his most famous stunts (surfing the seat) when the bike went out of control. He fell and cracked his skull (I think), he would have survived if he had a helmet... but he never wore one, and never did.
A few friends were at the show, they got back here within a day of it happening, still crying their eyes out... they must of been going at least 130 half blind.

Aye, only Harleys and a few other cruisers come w/o tachs.
It's just the Luddite philosophy rearing its ugly head.
Actually, they probably just figure that the engine isn't exactly a revver, so most people can instinctively get a feel for where to shift.
As for the Original post, if you're a cheap bastid like me, you can call around to some Motorcycle salvage yards -they may have a compatible tach.

I thought that most cruisers don't have tachs to "clean up" the look of the bike. Well that and the fact that it's only REALLY important to have one if you're racing, so you can learn exactly when to shift a lot easier. And it's not like anyone really races cruisers.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

tech still bouncing
I checked the tech and it has wires ,no cable.
also noticed that that at idle it just bounces from 2000 to 2500 maybe 3000
is their a pick up coil?and would it be inside or outside of the engine.
If not that could I test out the tach some how?
