Get. Your. Knee. Checked. Out. Soon.
I agree,

Also if the FZ6 was your first bike I would reccomend trying something with less power that will help with your learning.

Get well soon!

Sorry your knee is giving you trouble. Get it checked out.

As for your self-evaluation: Sounds like you've figured it out. . . was there anywhere to just move over and just get outta their way? On a less powerful/torquey bike, you probably would have been able to accelerate away without dumping yourself onto the pavement.

Heal quickly.

Made an appointment to get it checked out.

Well... another update: to make matters worse, I'm now completely without a bike. I called the wrecking service (that I didn't even want in the first place -- I tried to tell them I had a truck and could have my stepdad pick it up himself, but they said no???), and they're telling me it will cost over three HUNDRED dollars to pick it up from there today... :-/ That's about a quarter of what the bike itself (in good condition...) is worth. On top of that, they won't even let me remove any of the parts from it if I don't take possession of it. I can't fork out that kind of money, so now I don't even have anything to work on. (I would just save up and get it out eventually, but the cost goes up $15 a day...)

I'm beyond depression. Now I'm just irate.

I guess I can go back to where I started and consider what my next bike will be. :-/ One thing that I do miss about the FZR was it's more upright seating position - you're not lying on the tank like a lot of sport bikes have you do. So I guess I'll be looking for something in the standard category. I have a lot of time to dream. :-/ I'm open to suggestions, everyone!

I had a horrible time sleeping last night... I went through the exact same thing I did a while back. A few months after I first started driving, I was in a car accident -- rendered the truck useless. :-( I couldn't sleep for days. I kept dreaming about the accident and what I could've done to prevent it. Same thing this time. I tried to convince myself that a lot of riders will go through this sort of thing at least once, and that I'm ok, and that's all that matters. Yeah, I'm banged up a bit, but I'm alive and functioning with only a little bit of difficulty.

And... guess who I saw today! Those punks -- they are apparently local. I got the license plate number and good description of the car. Not sure what I'm going to do about it, but we'll see. I guess I can always locate where the car is stored, and cut a brake line here and there, etc etc. Gee... did I say that out loud...?

Anyway, thank you for the well wishes, everyone. Although I've only had the bike about 5ish months, I've put about 4.5 thousand miles on it. I wouldn't say I'm a TOTAL newbie. I know I have a ton to learn and a very long way to go, but I can definitely say that I've learned a lot in those 4500 miles. A lot of those were highway miles, but I have put a wee bit of time in twisties and local roads. Having a 600 has definitely made learning a bit more difficult, but I have tried to eliminate as many other inhibiting factors as I can -- time of the day, location, etc. The FZR really has been rather forgiving. Maybe due to age. I don't know. But I do know that I am going to really miss this bike. Excuse any typos -- hate to be emotional but I have tears in my eyes thinking about Rusty (that's what I named it...).

I'm not going to let this deter me from getting back out there. I guess now I'll just be that much more focused on getting something that really fits me, my needs, and my skills (eh, or lack thereof). Also have to thank all of you ladies and gentlemen -- you all have helped me learn SO much! I'll keep hanging around the forum. Your advice and words of wisdom have helped shape my riding habits and attitude towards riding in general. :D

Thank the Lord for ATGATT! There's a nasty dent/set of scrapes where the back of my helmet hit the pavement and slid a short bit.
If you have insurance there is a good chance your insurance company will pay for a new helmet. Check with them.

Even if they don't pay, you now need a new helmet. Once a helmet has been dropped or in your case, crashed....the integrity of it is compromised.

So when you start riding again, you need a new helmet.

So let us know the results of the knee checkup. I hope it's not serious.

Yes, ma'am. I loved the helmet I had - was a great fit. So will probably just get the same one when I do start riding. Inexpensive, awesome quality (I honestly don't remember even feeling my head hit the ground), and looks/feels good.

My jacket and pants are in good shape. I will probably just hang these up and save them. No rips or tears anywhere (that I can see). I'm assuming it's safe to continue to use those?

Hmmm. Sounds shady to me. How did they end up with your bike in the first place? Did the police call them? Was the bike insured? Sheesh. What a scam/money tree motorcyclists must be for that company.

The police called the service. When the officer told me, I said I could've gotten it out of the way myself, but they wouldn't call the service off. :-/ I didn't realize how much of a problem this would cause. After looking at some reviews of this particular wrecking service, I'm wondering if the cities have some sort of deal going on with them.

The bike was insured - but the value of it is so low that I'm not sure it'd be worth it to make the claim, have my rates go up, and pay the deductible and the Lord only knows what else to get it back.

Yes, they are still ok to wear. :)

I also agree with Lion Lady.....perhaps ask your step dad to talk to the wreckers. Maybe they are trying to take advantage of you.

Might have my other half have a word with them... I think I'm still too emotionally out of it to effectively deal with it. -sigh-
