Pacific I agree with Lion Lady I don't like this sound of this at all. I understand you got "towed" to an extent and to get it out would probably be a problem cause it's all in lots and what not. Just like if you had unpaid parking tickets theres all sorts of fees associated with retrieving it.

But you should at least be able to SEE it or get stuff from it.

Hmmmm . . . y'know, here in Columbus, we had similar problems with towing services. Complaints to the city piled up enough for them to review the contracts. At least lodge a formal complaint.

Even if the police don't charge them, they might give the punks a visit and "have a chat." Try getting the same officer that arrived at the scene, armed with photos of the damage to your bike and your knee.

Mostly, I'm sorry to hear of your injuries--and your bike's. As I used to tell patients on the trauma ward: the emotional trauma is not to be taken lightly. Be easy with yourself, sit with the lessons your emotions are trying to give you, and work through them. And expect it to take time, just like your knee needs timel.

I might suggest you contact the police officer who took your information and let them know what is going on with the wrecking yard, call the city as well. Sometimes complaining to the right people can help alot. You might also call your insurance company about the wrecking yard as well. See who can help. I would call the wrecking yard or better yet write them and let them know you want your bike back now, that you are going to contact the BBB and the Attorney General and the local District Attorney and your own attorney if they dont give you your bike back, they sound very shady and it sounds like your getting shafted.
As far as your knee goes, I hope it heals quickly and gets back to 100 percent asap, it has been my experience that knees take a long time to heal so good luck with that.
I would also suggest you recontact the local police department about the kids in the car, the least thing they can do is show some colors to the driver of the car letting them know that their actions resulting in your crashing...I dont know what else might come of that.
Remember the squeeky wheel gets the oil and with the economy being what it is, If it were me I would make use of every available opportunity to get my bike back to repair it myself. Even if I had to take the wrecking yard to court. Good luck with whatever you choose to do and I hope you heal quickly and get to ride again soon.

I figure it's time for my last update on this thread.

Just a torn collateral ligament. Not the first time for me (I get thrown around by hubby, my sensei, a lot. Martial arts will kill your knees...). I'm pretty much up and about -- still can't rotate my knee much like normal, but that will heal over time.

As far as the bike goes, well, I'm letting it go. It has become too much of a distraction the past several months anyhow. I've already decided what I want next (took a test ride and everything - I'm sold. :D ), but will be focusing on taking care of everything else in my life before I get back into actively riding. (Hint: I'm broke.)

Now for better news, SO started his new job on Thursday, after 13 months of not working. Yay!

Congrats on the job. :)

Good to hear your injury is not too serious. Take care and I hope you can "get back in the saddle" sooner than later. :)
