OK... trying out a couple of new things today:
1. Tried the Push Steering while on one a run this morning... wow! Very, very easy, I actually feel more in control. That's a keeper.
2. Tied to insert a picture in the signaure block... we'll see if that's a keeper too.

That didn't work! Need to figure that out. What I want to do is indsert a picutre of my bike. Seems I currently can only insert an image from Avtar over to the side. Many of you have actual photos of your bikes in the postings... I'd like to do that.

First you need to upload the picture to a web hosting site like tinypic.com or Photobucket. When you upload the picture the site will give you a url that looks like http://i25.tinypic.com/23jk45i.jpg . Next you surround the url with the image tags so it looks like

Code: Select all

[IMG]http://i25.tinypic.com/23jk45i.jpg[/IMG]
After you hit submit the picture will show up.

Thanks... I'll give it try. If you see a picture of my new Vulcan below this post you'll know it worked. :D If you don't I appreciate your coaching but it may seem this ol' dog can't be taught new tricks.

You were missing the"[" bracket at the beginning of the link, so I added it for you. Now we have to teach you how to resize your photos so they don't take up the whole screen.

By the way, after a 30 year absence from bikes I'm hoping you are going to enrol in a motorcycle safety course, yes?

For sure! (My nineteen year old wants to learn to ride so we'll take it together). I have taken a defensive driving course too.

The safety course will no doubt recommend 'high visibility' clothing... I don't see many riders wearing high visibility clothing... what are your thoughts on that?

Six I've found a program called Xnview works well for resizing pictures. Plus it's free. Google it up.

Must indeed!

#18 Unread post by Dunolde »

Must indeed be a "boomer thing." But I've been away for almost 40 years; started again two years ago by buying the very same bike. Surprisingly powerful bike. I've since moved up to an 800cc Suzuki Volusia. A bit of a transition but a much more roomy bike, with a low center of gravity. Surprisingly responsive and easier to maneuver than the smaller Vulcan. I wish I had gotten back into it years ago!

Pretty much says it all for us "retreads". Plus you wonder why you gave it up in the first place right?
Always ask why.

Jonhj; thanks for the resize tip.

Dunolde:
Interesting you picked the same bike. I had more than one reason for picking the Vulcan 500; power seemed managable (my last bike was a 250 honda dirt bike, before that a 175 yamaha - the dirt bike was stolen the RCMP only found the frame  ) the other reason was length... I have a very steep driveway felt backing a bike down the drive wasn't the best plan and so I feel I must be able to turn the bike around in my 9'wide garage. I wasn't sure I could turn a bigger bike around. Turns out my buddy can turn his Suziki 800 intruder in the garage so I can afford to go bigger in that department. I sat on the Honda Shadow 750 felt like a monster... also a Suziki 1400 S80... liked it but felt it was way too much. Right now I'm thinking I keep this one a while, not even thinking about moving up yet as I bought this one new. * My daughter has her eye on it already so maybe it'll become her bike and then I can move up?...

Ceemes:
Like the term "Retreads"... and you're right I do wonder why I ever gave it up. Mortage, Marriage, Children, Job... the list goes on. I must say however, it's really great getting back!
