Leather Processing

#2. Cheapest Dye Color
#3. His wife wants to make sure no women will be interested in the motorcycle guy

#2 - Seems unlikely, but would be fortunate
#3 - That would make my wife happy. But I suppose I'm old and moldy enough, and I have 4 kids and a wife that even in jest said she'd take 75% of my income if I divorced that I doubt if anything I'd like would like me. Bright neon green jacket would probably be the least of my problems. That and the fact that I've picked up weight again... Back up to 180 pounds.

Traditional Style Biker Jacket - except in white or neon green.

I know - it sick....

And.... I'm sure the meaning of the word traditional is a bit more flexible than what I'm thinking of - I guess this is traditional cruiser style leather jacket.

I love a traditional leather riding jacket. But I won't wear black.

So, what I want to do is take a traditional leather motorcycle jacket that is perforated and comes with CE certified armor, and have it processed to either white or neon green. ( I know it is probably really gross, but I ride alone anyway - and pretty much only to work and home ).

I'd run in to a site online that described buying previous year bad colors leather riding suits and having them changed in to a better color.

What is the name of the place that would do such processing? Are there any in NJ?

Oh, anyone that would point out a traditional motorcycle riding jacket that meets my specs above - it would really be appreciated. Online most of these jackets look too much alike.

If you can't buy it premade, I'd be a bit leary of changing the color of a real leather garment after it has been treated. For leather doesn't take kindly to that sort of treatment.

What I would do is Google your area for a custom leather tailor. It will cost more but you can have it made to the thickness that you require and you can have it made in any style you want. Because of my dimensions, I went that way and all my riding out fit is brown instead of black and It's much better put together than comerial leathers.

"Custom leather tailor" - I'll be searching. I suppose someone out there must have access to motorcycle grade leather to do work on.

I had been thinking of making my own jacket and stuff, but I could never find the raw materials.

If I was still at Osan I could hook you up no problem. I used to get my custom-tailored leather jackets over there for about $100 a pop, whatever style I wanted, whatever leather I wanted. It helped speaking Korean with the owner and helping him learn better English in addition to sending quite a bit of business his way. I'll send a couple emails and see if any of my old friends are still there and can look into it for me.

I've heard legends from servicemen when I was an Air National Guardsmen about what was possible for low dollars in Korea. $10 suits (of high quality, apparently) and etc.

Well, thanks - even if it is a low probability - that would be a really cool thing.

Maybe I'd put some specifications together.

yeah, i don't think that came across exactly as he meant.

and the days of $10 suits are long gone, but as long as you know which shops aren't putting turds in nice wrapping paper it's very possible to get high quality goods very cheaply. most anything you buy that has a "Made in Korea" tag in it can be bought over there for less than half what you'd pay in the states--officially licensed jerseys, designer clothing, shoes, suits, purses, etc. some stores sell the real thing, but many others sold knock-offs that fell apart shortly after leaving the store.

i've still got two of the leather jackets i bought over there, one of them has a rip right above the pocket from a night of heavy drinking and possibly either a fight or a female grabbing my jacket. the other is just too heavy of a coat to wear in tucson.

and actually, now that i think about it, i remember seeing a few pieces of motorcycle gear in several of the shops. jackets, pants, full suits, etc. i never checked the prices on them and still am not familiar enough with current prices to know whether they would have been a good deal or not, but they were there.
