Question on air cleaner....

#1 Post by Bluebabe » Sat Nov 17, 2007 3:58 pm

I am going to be putting on a new set of pipes and a Power Commander on my 2006 Vulcan 900 Classic LT.

My question is, does anyone know if the stock air cleaner is big enough to bring in enough air for the modifications that I am doing?

If not, I have found the Thunder Mfg air kit, but don't know if I like the looks of that one.....

I am trying to find out as much about this as I can on my own and you need to understand I am not a gear head, so don't get too technical on me!! ;)

I would like a little more horsepower out of it and I liked the sound of the pipes on another friend's bike.....

looks like they have a map for that setup, though you will get more power with the intake as well.

Thanks NG for the hookup. I have narrowed it down to the Vance & Hines Slash Cut Staggered pipes, an air intake from Thunder mfg and the Power Commander III. I found some more info. on the Kawasaki MC forums site, also. Pretty informative!

I have really been enjoying learning more and more about my bike, sure does make it a lot more "personal." ;)

Thanks for the link, I have gone there and am printing out the information. I am going to gather it all and then talk with my husband and then we will take my bike into a friend's MC shop who will be doing the work for me. I asked if he could wait and do it on a Saturday so I can come "watch" and see just exactly it is that he is doing as I know my husband and I could do it, but I think with this one, we will make sure it is done to "specs" as I don't think he has messed much with MC engines in a while and since it is MY bike, he didn't want to "mess it up." ;) So, I am really looking forward to "Stage 1." :roll2:

I will post the DYNO results here, before and after, so you can see the results. It will be a couple of months, though, but I won't forget. Will try and do a little video of the bike with the before and after pipes, too.

Thanks again......
