I'm sure you'll be fine riding with someone else...just have to watch the lane positioning and speed.

I wonder if anyone knows how to post without quoting a novel from previous posts, or maybe even editing it down to a manageable size...

You might need to teach a course on that Doc!

But then again, all this reading and disregarding the unnecessary might help keep Alzheimers away.

I did follow a guy for most of an hour on the way back.

South Carolina is the worst for road maintenance. They had minimal signage on route 95 for construction and it was the worst kind of construction - an additional layer of blacktop on top of the white asphalt they had as the primary road surface.

So, we both changed lanes down over these uneven edges, but for the way back - we both waited for the next overpass bridge thingie were mysteriously the extra layer wasn't there and changed lanes.

Bridges are built to hold x lbs and can't take the extra pavement. Underpasses would lose their height if the pavement was laid underneath them.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Ah this does make sense, but I still haven't figured out the reason for the extra layer of pavement.

They build a road... ten years later, they fix the potholes with asphalt and add two inches of asphalt to the road, except across and under bridges and overpasses, to smooth it out. The added weight of the asphalt would overtax the bridges and the raising of the roadbed would mean the 13'5" clearance underpass becomes 13'2".

If you want to know how to build a road, look into the German Autoban and how it was designed and constructed.

It was a little bit different than that. The road seemed ok where the blacktop wasn't there.

There was open road surface, then one lane had an extra layer of blacktop approaching the overpass then on the bridge, no extra pavement - then it started again, for another 1/8 of a mile.

I think, maybe they are preparing to do work on the overpasses themselves.

I should learn more about road building though.

Oh, I don't know about that, LL--you practically did just that, a couple of months ago!!

And, um, about that 90mph business, Rhadham . . . uh, I'd, um, take it seriously. Never thought a radar detector would even make my Top 100 list for accessories, let alone my Top 10 list . . . :innocent2:
Well we weren't exactly under an absolute time limit (and I did spend the night at your house before we set out). WELCOME BACK!!!
