I guess I should lock this thread or something. To be honest, I don't mind the debate half as bad as this banter regarding gays. It takes things so incredibly off topic, and makes use of someone's way of being as a tool to hurt others and sling insult. It's just so uncool - from all of you. Anyone involved in it either in a serious fashion or as sarcasm, etc... looses some integrity points from me - if it matters at all. Maybe not.
The forums are designed so that we can share our experiences. Just because ZooTech has had a different experience that may go against the majority opinion does not make it wrong. I can understand concerns about newbies on big bikes, but both ZooTech and HighSide (and a few others) have received harsher than normal treatment just for expressing an idea that is different. And then the person who asked the question in the first place receives no help in the end. Just a lot of static. It's a disservice to our new-riding members. In order for people to make informed choices (as new riders) they need the information, and that includes opinion. Bickering won't aid them at all - just makes 'ya look petty.
Please, just state your opinions, and let it be. And keep your personal digs to one another in PMs (without copying to the forums).
I've read so many great things from all of you - lots of valuable insight to go around. I hope the focus can stay on the positive.
Cheers,
Loonette

The American "allure" you speak of (I think the word you are searching for could be inclination, bias, or perspective possibly) is to crave a democracy where people can choose if they want to ride a 250cc bike or a 3 million cc bike.iwannadie wrote:i think thats all its coming down to. that american allure for bigger more expensive means its gotta be better.Sevulturus wrote:but, but, but, if you don't have a bike with an engine bigger then 1000cc's you aren't a real man.
look at the UK laws they restrict you to learning on smaller CC bikes. cant tell me a country is just making that law up for whatever reason. if starting on a 1500cc bike is so dam safe why is there laws against it, and noone seems to be having problems learning this way over there? but again its a dead argument certain people have it in their mind and will go to the grave defending it. im open to ideas or reasons regarding all this. the best ive gotten was the wind issue which is pointless imho.
It also (if you ask me) happens to be a wonderful back-door government supported natural selection program.

I couldn't resist.

After reading Zoo's, Sev's, and wannadie's position on the issue many, many, many times I think you all agree more than you want to admit. I think you guys just want to pick a fight.
I think Zoo would be a little more liberal in bike selection for newbies, but his position isnt so different from Sev's that it requires tons of debate everytime a newb asks what to buy.
You 3 have your own unique buttons that inflame you into debate. Could you all just stop pressing each others buttons so often?

Well put Loonette.
I got so caught up in all the insults that I forgot the original question. Anyway, to answer the question street is good asked, my opinion is that those bikes are way too big. I started on a 250 Interceptor. I would not be against starting on a 600, although you would need to be a little more carefull. The 250 I had was very forgiving. I am now wanting a 600cc sportbike. The power of the big bikes that you want would be way too much for a beginner. These newer bikes are much more powerful than bikes years ago that were once considered top of the line. Just my 2 cents.

Hopefully have a ride by February.

I noticed a marked increase in the opposite of what I posted here, immediately after I posted this. If I inadvertently contributed, I apologize to everyone. I really thought it was turning arouind. That's why I posted the kudos ...I will just stay out next time. Again, Sorry if I contributed in a negative way. I truly didn't mean to.ronboskz650sr wrote: ...Much of this argument is simply personal preference and opinion, and makes for a spirited discussion. BRAVO! This is why new riders come here, and come back later. Good job folks!
Ride safe...God bless!

Not at all, Ron. The three of us (Sev, iwannadie, and me) get into it all the time, partly because of a post that was taken way outta context a few weeks ago, and partly because iwannadie insulted Sev for being a safety cop. You did nothing wrong whatsoever and I appologize for contributing to the deterioration of this thread. I was trying really hard to stay away from Sev's posts, and I believe he was doing the same...but as you can see even a slightly sarcastic comment is all it takes to get the party started.ronboskz650sr wrote:I noticed a marked increase in the opposite of what I posted here, immediately after I posted this. Nice to see things calming down a bit. You're okay, Ron. I also believe that it's good to have the differing opinions and healthy debate. It allows others to see that there can be more than one way of approaching just about anything. And like I said before, these three all have great information to provide, but like many a dysfunctional family
, we can't all get along all of the time. Just nice to keep it civil. Hopefully all is good in the 'hood.
Cheers,
Loonette

hey Guys Im Streets brother Hes a very smart kid and very strong for his age, he's still a little ways from getting a bike, Unless he wants to start paying for college. He simply put up those bike b/c that's what he thinks is cool. He is just getting into the sport and is a real noob. I've ridden with him a few times and he's a smart rider, he doesn't take stupid risks, and he has very good bike control. I know that after attending classes and practice he will be a very mature 600cc ridrer.
