Yeah, their reputation for reliability has pretty much been on a continuous tumble for the past half-decade or more.

But you bought a BMW. The magazines always had good things to say about BMW cycles especially the F800.

Well, I bought an older oilhead assuming it wouldn't have all the problems associated with some of the newer models (mainly electronics related). Apparently my bike model is prone to clutch and final drive failures. It's the type of thing that's exaggerated on internet forums, and my bike itself has been dead reliable so far (knock2x), but the rumors don't do much for my confidence level.
