Depends on the type of coverage and displacement.

My 50hp 500cc Vtwin was only 5$ cheaper to insure than my 90hp 600cc 4 cylinder was. This was for liability + Uninsured motorist in both cases as the bikes were both well used and not financed iirc the bandit ran me about 110 a year. Uninsured motorist was more expensive than liability but still not bad. For an over 25 married male in a town of about 60,000 and above average theft rates.
What you said doesn't seem to be true for my insurance plan.

My Ductai 1100s is the same cost same as my Shiver 750 was and both of these bikes are still cheaper than an old friend of mine who had a 600cc F4i.

V-Twins are just a type of Engine. THere are L-Twins too.

It's basically 2 cylinder (Twin) or 4 cylinder unless someone can correct me.

Sport bikes have 4 cylinders and can generally go much much faster (200+mph) and they have their power at the higher RPMS.

Where as twins or 2 cylinder bikes have a much lower top speed (120ish) and they have all their power at the lower RPMs.

Living in NYC the insurance for any vehicle can be quite expensive compared to other cities due to higher accident rate, theft, comprehensive claims, and of course, to be more bike specific, sport bike riders are at higher risk of crashing due to the tendency of the rider to push the bike more so than a cruiser rider would. Sport bikes have a lot of plastic that can be costly to replace in the event of a crash. Sport bikes are also stolen at a higher rate. Also it'll be cheaper if you own a home and have a good credit rating, if not then welcome to the world of high risk.

Oddly my insurance became cheaper when I moved from the Vulcan to an older 900cc Ninja.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.
