Draggin jeans or Body Armour?
50 years old here too, and smarter than when I was younger! Also stiffer and more physical damge, broken bones and the like. We are NOT bullet proof!
I wear Joe Rocket Alter Ego nylon pants over jeans or shorts, depending on the outside temp and season. They have great knee armor and hip padding. My Joe Rocket jacket is heavy on the armor; shoulders, elbows and back. It has a removable liner and a mesh liner when the removable is out, and has zipper vents. I just add more layers underneath if it's cold, because I took the liner out and like it better that way here in SoCal. I wear gloves and boots too, as I ride canyons, and it still doesn't feel like enough protection. Jeans only, no helmet is only for riding on the side walk 30' from one underground garage in our complex to the other! Everywhere else, full gear.

I just this week received my Diamond Gusset Jeans. They fit as advertised and I'll let you know how the stand up. They don't have any armor, but I was thinking about sewing some mesh pockets at the knees and hips to fit some armor I have.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Bohn Armor
Second year (female) newbie here. . .I bought the pants mesh with armor. Their chart size is pretty accurate and ordered for my height (4'11") Although, I had to buy a new pair of jeans, the next size up and more room in the thigh to accommodate the armor around the hips and tail bone. Hubby says that I do look a bit more curvy, but that's a good thing since I don't have much of an hour-glass figure anyway.
Overall the product works well. I ride a Yamaha 250cc and it took a while to get use to the tail bone pad. It's a little cumbersome when taking a nature break, but that doesn't deter me from using them. I like the peace of mind of having extra armor and I can't remember when a bug last hit me on the shin or knee. The last test is to wear them in the upcoming Summer in commuter traffic. Ride safely!

Re: Draggin jeans or Body Armour?
I have the Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants and use them on the highway as they have the built in armor and are easier to clean when riding thru bugs. Plus they offer slight rain protection if I hit a cloud burst.
I also have the Draggin Jeans (Traffic model) and use them for running around town. Saves all the odd stares from non-riders when walking into malls and such.
I find they are very comfortable. They have a bit of a stretch in the material which makes them more comfortable when sitting in the saddle. Less pinching of the family jewels. The quality is superb and I am thinking of getting the optional armor knee pads that are removable. A great option for short trips and city riding and you can still be ATGATT
They are pre-shrunk and correspond to existing sizing quite well. Many dealers carry them so a visit to try them on should not be too difficult unless you are in a small market area. Just beware there are 2 Draggins. The originals from Australia are superior in my opinion.

I carry 2 pairs on my trips. Regular denim and black for a dressier look which I use when on stage. (I'm a stand-up comic that tours by motorcycle).
I am looking at getting their gloves for hot weather too.

I have never tried the Bohn Armor but it would not suit my purposes as I have limited room for my long trips. Hope that helps
