Disappearing engine oil - oil level has lowered in a month!

#1 Unread post by ultimax »

Hi,

I've gotten about 800 miles of urban riding since my last oil change and the bike runs fine. However, I've noticed the engine's oil level has fallen considerably, from slightly above the high-level mark to just above the low-level mark.

I don't think this is normal. Is anything wrong? I drained only a litre (of the 1.4l I added) of oil during the last oil change. BUT the bike functions perfectly fine.

I ride a virago 125 (same as the 250, just with a smaller engine) and I'm using 10W-40 semi-synthetic motor oil, 1400ml at each oil change (manufacturer's specs).

thanks!

oil usage

Oil usage may come from how hard the bike is operatated and from high temperatures the bike is used in. Also be sure to check the level after the bike has set for a little while and the oil has drained back to the lower part of the engine. I hope this helps you. Ride safely.

Check the exhaust pipe end for oilyness residue. A 125 cruiser gets beat pretty hard, just in normal driving. It isn't a long lived motor. How many miles are on it? What kind of oil are you using? Does the oil level stabize when you use dino oil?
