I'll be going to pick up two new (old) bikes tomorrow. Not one or three or twelve but two, yes count them, two 73 RD350's. Fruckin awesome. How much you might ask? For free. Not one or two or twelve dollors, but for NOTHING. Hail yayuh! The motors in both are fine, they are both pretty much complete and between the two he said I could easily get one running and have an almost complete parts bike. How friggin cool is my uncle. Really! thats how friggin cool he is. They are both orange too. My uncle got them as payment from a dude he built a Bonneville for. He was going to build a ahrma road racer out of them but he has gotten out of racing. He already has a orange 73 that is in great shape so he told me to come pickt the others up.
Can we say air pollution and wheelies? I can.
So far I have gone through the carbs set the point gaps and did a static timing on it. I also unstuckified the front caliper. I am going to clean out the tank and install a new petcock. After that Im gonna see what she does when I kick her over. Oh and I need to make sure the oil injection system works.
years ago my buddy and I rebuilt an RD400 he got cheap....great bike and blast. I rode it to work once at Simon Fraser University and pulled a wheelie while climbing up the Ho Chi Minh Trail...aka the road to the top of Burnaby Mountain. Love the sound of a racy two stroke and the pulling power.
It is almost complete. The carbs are actually on it, the ones on the seat are an extra pair that came with them. The only thing missing on the parts bike is the points, the headlight and the speedo. The forks on that one are pretty rusty and it is a little more banged up on the tank, side covers and pipes. The engine in both are perfectly fine. they could both be runners with a minimal amount of $$. But I think we are going to keep it a parts bike for my uncles and my runners. Yes he had three orange 75's.
I won't jinx myself by saying for sure, but I think the other one MIGHT be running by weeks end.
ceemes, they are certainly notorious for needing far more rear tires then fronts.
