Cruiser bike for long road-trip -- any of you done it?

It probably needs to be said that the reason that cruisers in general aren't optimized for long distance riding is the seating position--the feet forward/arms up position mean that every road bump is going through your spine rather than some being absorbed by your legs or arms. Now there is no question that people do ride cruisers for long distances. But it's simply not optimal.

I would also re-emphasize the parts issue. It could be really hard to get something for a Kymco in an out of the way location.

Finally, on the low power. A 250cc will certainly reach normal cruising speeds but because you'd have to push it, there would be more vibration meaning that it would get tiring quicker.

So, can be done; not optimal.

(with only a few thousand mph on the clock).

Glad to hear you're considering a bigger bike, that will handle the road trip with ease.

And wow... a 650 cruiser with a few thousand mph on the clock?! Bet it's turbo'd! haha

Having weighed up all you guys said, I've decided to get a more powerful bike -- thanks for your opinions -- as they say, two heads (or more) are always better than one, so thanks for all your input. Now am thinking of say 650 cc for the future road trip, which will be able to take the freeways/highways in its stride without labouring the engine. So, for now, the Yamaha 650 V-Power Classic has caught my eye, and even though I said I wanted new, will consider the 2008/2009 models from a dealer (with only a few thousand mph on the clock).

I think she had a special blog for the trip, not her main blog. You're going to have to go back a few years to find it, maybe 2007 or so.
