Check out my new toy!!

#1 Unread post by oehlerts »

Ok, so after my picture posting problems, (I finally figured it out...THANKS dr_bar!!!!) here it is, my new 2005 Suzuki Boulevard C50! I know its very stock, but hey, I've got years to make it my own, right? So I know the heated contraversy about new riders buying new vs. used and large vs. small but this bike is so nice, and the deal was so good, I just couldn't pass it up! I bought it Saturday, have only ridden it twice and have 80+ miles on it already (don't worry, I have plenty of slow speed/parking lot practice in and will continue to do so :D ). So far, I don't regret getting it one bit and I have only riden in the MSF course with the Honda 125T's. A lot of people have said it looks like a huge bike (a very experienced rider with a 1200cc stopped next to me and thought it was a 1600!), but even though I was concerned about this as well, as soon as I sat on it, that feeling went away. It is so much more comfortable than the other bikes I sat on (V-stars, Vulcans, Shadows) that I knew this was the one I had to get. I am a 5'10" chick with a 37" inseam so I have no problem sitting with my feet flat and my knees comfortably bent when at a stop. The bike is so smooth (my boyfriend who has a new CBR600 says its like a cadillac), it shifts like a dream, the weight is sovincreadibly well balanced it does not feel like a 550lb bike and it has plenty of power and speed and cruising ability to keep me happy for many years (i know iwannadie, you don't understand how people can 'outgrow' their bikes :P ). I'll cry later and regret buying it if/when I lay it down!

Bottom line, I feel comfortable and safe on it, which only means I'm going to be more aware of what's going on around me because I'm not concerned about the bike (again, I'll still be practicing a lot, so don't worry!)

So, here's a newbie question...whats the universally accepted biker to biker signal?!

Very nice choice indeed . It's a beauty .
I usually lift my left hand off of the bars and and extend it lowered in passing another scoot . Don't be disappointed when some snob or other doesn't respond cause that will happen from time to time .
Kindest regards, Wizzard

Sometimes they don't see you...

It is a beautiful bike though, always good to see a new rider.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Nice lookin' bike there! Congratulatons. Any wave, other than an extention of just the middle finger, will do fine. Create your own. I have a few different waves - what I use depends on my mood and on how busy my clutch hand is at the time. Enjoy practicing on your new ride.

Cheers,
Loonette

Totally awesome machine you have there !!
Well, I am a bit prejudiced – I bought a C50 on April 1st
My wife said the date was appropriate  Originally we thought she’d inherit the C50 when I moved up to a larger engine. But I’m not in a hurry to give the C50 up! :o ]

While I’ve added a windscreen, but I really love the stock look.
I have 3400 miles and am still 100% satisfied with the choice.

As far as biker to biker signals… I agree with Loonette
what I use depends on my mood and on how busy my clutch hand is at the time.
Don't worry about signalling if you can't do it safely.

Enjoy your new ride!

Nice bike! Same color as my Dad's. He has well over 5,000 miles on his and absolutely loves it.

Here it is parked next to mine during Honda Homecoming:

Same here...pulled in the driveway with his first bike. I sat on it, and it is beautifully balanced with the weight down low. Congratulations! As far As I know, he hasn't dropped his and he bought it early this spring, riding to work every day. Great bike. Have fun!
Ride safe...God bless!
