Well, had my first crash . . .

I guess these are the "most interesting" bits. Plus there's the usual crushed indicators, scratched bar ends, scratched mirrors, etc.







I lost traction on a wet (metal) freeway expansion joint. Amazingly there's not a scratch on me. I woke up with a small bruise on my thigh, and some sore shoulders (possibly from lifting the bike and rolling it out of the way), but that's about it. My gear doesn't even have any tears, and very minor abrasions. I guess the fact that the road was wet kinda helped reduce the friction, plus I was oddly relaxed while sliding along, just waiting for me to stop sliding. Still, I'm incredibly lucky that I wasn't hit by any cars behind me.

Parts can be replaced but it's great to hear that you are OK. Did you get an estimate of the repair costs yet?

Thanks, everyone. I was absurdly lucky; must've fallen the right way somehow, plus I didn't tumble or hit something solid like a tree or barrier (or heck, a car).

Nice wordplay there, Wrider, I'm tempted to steal that turn of phrase . And High_Side, haven't gotten an estimate yet. I might've avoided broken bones, only to get a heart attack when that comes in. Oh well, it could've been lots worse. Like you said, it's easy to replace parts. Thumbs, skin, and other bits are a lot harder.

Actually Wrider you are right, it could have been worse had it not been a Boxer Beemer. The boxer cylinder head sliding on the ground probably relieved him from making much harder contact with the ground while sliding.

Ha ha, good one. Yep, had those things, great for tip-overs, not so great for abrasion that can shear a hole into a valve cover. The plastic guard was torn right off (at least I've still got the left one).

Funny enough, I was tempted to replace the plastic guards with metal ones, but I also wondered if the metal guards would just transfer impact forces to the heads themselves.
