I've totaled two cars and zero motorcycles.

CARS ARE DANGEROUS!

I am a nurse and some of my co-workers affectionately call my helmet a brain bucket while others ask why i have decided to start riding a donorcycle....

still some insist, it must be a mid life crisis...

my only regret is not getting one of my own sooner

The answer to that is

Don't ask, if you can't understand :D :D :D
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

I have heard them all in 35 years of riding ....unfortunately , I have seen a lot of the dangers as well (not personally occurred to me but to others).

Everyone has a friend or acquaintance who was hurt or killed on a bike.....most don't mention they also have friends or acquaintances hurt or killed in cars , on trampolines , scuba diving , surfing ,shooting, sky diving, skiing, roller blading, bike riding, playing football (US), playing darts , paper cuts , using household tools , playing with a dog, kayaking, fishing, flying, drinking, drugs, etc. etc.

Almost anything fun has some risk to it , thats why its FUN. You cant sit around in a totally isolated environment and enjoy life.

Given that , one can greatly decrease the risks of most fun activities by learning how to do them correctly , making good decisions, and properly outfitting yourself with gear and knowledge about said activity.

When someone comments that riding a bike is dangerous , I reply " yes......it can be, it can also be a total blast!".

When people say I should stop riding because it's dangerous, I say people are more likely to get injured in the shower than in any other room in the house. It's still not a good enough reason to stop taking a bath.

Also: doncha just love resurrected threads?

Taking a bath is indeed dangerous, but you just have to be prepared to accept the risks, like Queen Elizabeth I, who took a bath once a year whether she needed it or not.
