stem lites

#21 Unread post by niterider »

It is true about the heavy valve stem cap. It happened to me a few days ago. But it was on my pick-up truck tire. The weight of the cap bent the stem (probably old stem) and the stem broke and I got a flat, the tire was not ruined stopped in time. The stem is at an angle, that should not happen on a bike. But it could knock the balance off. I will leave my lites on. I did take the heavy caps off of my truck.

What do all cars have on the front of them, mounted for night driving? What do all newish cars have in addition?

Headlights, daylights.

Or are you worried about the guys who run with their lights off? Or is it pedestrians we're trying to alert?

Is this city driving? Because streetlights will light it up as well.
unless the headlights are pointed right at you then they are useless. going through an intersection if a car is going straight and your coming from their side. the headlights wont shine on you untill its too late. thats exactly how my last accident happaned.

use your tape, ill use my tire flys bottom line.

So, either you ran into a red light, or stop sign. Or they ran a red light and you smoked them side on during a green. If they don't see 2 or 3 giant red lights right in front of them, they won't see your little blue lights off to the side. They won't see my tape either, but that's not the point.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

They aren't designed to increase visibility. They are designed to look pimp, and they do. They have the added benefit of increasing visibility. I get mine to look pimp.

Let me tell you, I've had more than a few people tell me that my stem lights are the coolest thing since sliced bread, and that just makes my day.

I've got the big tall ones, about an inch and a half. They havn't done any damage to any of my tires. I just bought some smaller ones though, because mine are twist on/off, and I wanted some that were automatic.

If you don't like stem lights, just say so, you don't have to deny they increase visibility, even if it was only a tiny little bit.

im always tempted to lean over and see my tires while driving, they do look pretty sweet ;)

i need some new ones though mine are the cheap low end tire flys. id like to get the much brighter ones

oh and i was thinking of adding reflective tape under my fender(out of site) so when the tire light hits it the tape should creat a nice bright pulse of light coming from under the fenders, gotta test it out though and see how it would look.

I have the following mods:

# Stripes on my car because it makes me feel like I drive less of a piece of "poo poo".
# Gold rims because gold rims help make the car look sharp and chicks dig guys with sharp cars. Being as I'm not too much of a loser to use my car as a vessel for getting laid, it makes up for the fact that I'm a pimple-faced 16 year old who still lives at home (note for the slow: I'm not really 16).
# My name and/or car brand in Old English type with big letters on the windshield or back window. This is important in case someone forgets what brand of car I'm driving, or in case they see me in my sweet ride and they think to themselves "hey who's that cool guy in that sweet ride?"
# A "Type R" sticker because having the sticker is the next best thing to having the speed.
# Gold trim so people don't mistake me for being anything but a high roller.
# Flame stickers on the side of my car because I'm still stuck in that whole "Hot Wheel" phase.

Just totally sprang to mind. I think there's a fine line between interesting and ludacrious.

personal taste is up to... the Person. i personally dont care how my vehicle looks that much as long as it runs strong. my supra has millions of bolt ons to make it 'look fast' but id rather make it fast and not worry how it looks. some people though like looks rather than performance so if thats their thing they should go with it and put the monster wings and stickers on their ride, its what makes them happy not you.

i personally dont like the look of safety tape all over my bike, so i go with the nice blue glow of LEDs which i feel provides better light for safety anyways. the tape needs direct light on it to glow bright, to many cars (at least here) have small lights usually pointed way to low. or just old cars with dim lights that have no range. theres to many cases where the tape will be less effective where as the LEDs dont have that problem.

Why do you always try to justify yourself to me?
