I'm probably wasting my breath (or, bandwidth I guess), but here goes...

You're in America now, get something shiny and chromed. Suzuki Boulevard M90, or a C50 to spend less bucks. Don't let anyone talk to you into a Harley though. (-:

Wow guys, thanks for the ideas! JackGreen - you're probably right, I should be getting a cruiser. After all, we went with an American muscle car because of being in America, so why not get an American style bike? Makes sense. Hmmm... not sure I could pull it off though... I really need to be in love with my bike or I won't ride it, so I'm looking for something that realy tickles my fancy without being too impractical for this big ol' American city!!!

The only Harley I'd own is the XR1200...

Take a peek at the Yamaha Warrior too. I believe the newer ones are fairly expensive, but a buddy of mine bought an '01 or '02 recently for right around your price range. It's a damn nice bike, beefy tank and handlebars like a cruiser but with a raked back end and 'tucked up' tires like a sport bike.

Hmmm... Yamaha Road Warrior - not really my style...

I'm thinking something like this:

As you can see, I'm not into cruisers and I'm struggling with the thought of going with a cruiser "just because" we are in the USA...

What to do???

This one would look good with you on it. :kicking:
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Always wear a helmet, eye protection, and protective clothing. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Well, can't say I didn't try. (-:

If it's gotta be a sport bike, my vote is for a Buell Lightning.

Then, you can have your sport bike and do the American thing too. (-:
Looks like the ones selling on EBay usually go around $5000.00.
