You can try, but 9/10s of the time you can end up getting them out with some pliers and a washcloth or paper towels.

I thought about giving that a try, but the outer edge of the piston is flush with the cylinder. Not sure if I can get any traction on it. I'll give both a try tomorrow.

Actually just got everything sorted. Replaced the master cylinder Two weeks ago, took out for a test drive. Unfortunately at this point one of the cylinders stopped firing, so I couldn't get a read if the clutch would slip at WOT. Had to wait a few days to look at it again because of constant rain. Second problem turned out to be a torn spark plug boot that had let water in, top of the plug was swimming. Replaced all the plugs for good measure. Everything is running again, no slipping. So it WAS the Master Cylinder afterall.
