Gear slips when accelerating

#1 Unread post by MmeMagpie »

A couple of times, in the past week, I've felt something slip when accelerating hard. 3rd gear, I think. And it does slip from 2nd to neutral if I get a little throttle happy.

Did a little googling and there seems to be a few options:

1. worn out clutch plates (first thing I thought of, and the most expensive option)
2. bad oil
3. worn out springs

Anyone else with an '04 Honda VT750C (or similar) have a problem like this? The clutch does have 75k miles on it.

1) Change you oil and oil filter. Make sure you use an oil WITHOUT friction modifiers like Shell Rotella
2)Adjust your clutch. Use the service manual.

If these don't help then try having your clutch rebuilt.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Well, crud. I'm only 2000 miles into the last oil change, and I never did pay any mind as to what they're feeding her. Any adjustments are going to have to wait. It's snowing in southern Arizona right this minute :/

That's not clutch. The clutch would be indicated if it stayed in gear, not accelerating as the engine did.

That's transmission dog teeth getting worn out. 75K on the 04 Aero means honestly it's getting past the point where it's worth it to repair it (cost to repair vs value of bike).
