Battery cable extenders?

#1 Unread post by billk7457 »

Hi,

Today I had to hook up my battery tender to my Suzuki c50t, and I discovered that I had to remove the seats to get at the battery. I have heard folks talk of extending their cables somehow so that they can connect/charge from outside the bike; thus, they don't have to remove seats or whatever.

I searched the web for a while without coming up with anything solid. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks, Bill

You could just solder on some wire of the same gauge, then use the connectors from the original cables. 6 or 8 inches should be fine.

Or you could use a two wire polarized connector that you can get at any big box auto parts store. Hook one side to the battery and the other side to the charger.
Make sure the positive side of the battery goes to the positive side of the charger and the negative side of the battery goes to the negative side of the charger
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Are you saying that the battery tenders pigtail isn't long enough to leave hooked up to the battery so you don't have to take the seat off each time?

I've seen longer versions but I can't imagine a cruiser where the standard one didn't work?

Not sure about "pigtails." The tender has three wires coming out of the box: the power cord that goes to a receptacle, and two leads that end with alligator clips, one for the positive and one for the negative terminals respectively.

I looked at the link you sent. That looks nothing like what is on my tender. However, it looks like the two ends with the "eyes" can connect to the battery terminals and the leads could run out under the seat--if I am seeing it correctly.

Interesting. I haven't seen a battery tender without pigtails in.... well ever really. However, You can pick the pigtails up at a tractor supply. Hook one to your battery like this

Hook the other to your alligator clips when you clip it up and no need to take the seat off again.

Thanks. I looked over the procedure you sent. I'll prolly tinker with the bike tomorrow. Re: the pigtail. Probably did get one with the tender when I got it quite a few years ago, bit I didn't need it with my '86 Shadow, and I never found out what it was or what it was used for. Go Figure. Anyway, thank you very much.
